Just several days ago, the study in Guangxi International Expo Affairs Bureau (GIEAB) lead by Xu Guobing, deputy secretary of Party committee of GDUFS, came to a successful conclusion. With the inauguration ceremony, GIEAB formally become one of the practice bases of GDUFS, which signifies the practice work of GDUFS has made a further development.
Inauguration Ceremony
GIEAB is the secretariat of China-ASEAN Expo, in charge of coordination and organization of the Expo, which is jointly hosted by ASEAN Secretariat and the foreign trade departments of China and 10 ASEAN countries, and organized by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Expo aims at promoting economic and trade exchanges among countries and is held in Nangning, Guangxi Province every year. As the new platform for trade cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, it covers commodity trade, investment and cooperation and service trade. So far, five editions have been successfully held, which has played an important role in promoting the economic and trade relationships between China and ASEAN countries.
During the 3rd China-ASEAN Expo in 2006, SITS provided language service for the Expo for the first time. SITS and School of Eastern Languages organized their students to interpret in the venues. In 2007, the Expo invited bids for conference interpreting groups from the whole society. SITS on behalf of the university won the bid and sent an interpreting group of 10 persons to the Expo to undertake the simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting in all the related forums.
On December 14th 2007, Wang Lei, deputy secretary of the Expo secretariat, signed with GDUFS the Memo on Cooperation of Establishing Language Talents Training Base for China-ASEAN Expo, and inaugurated GDUFS as Language Talents Training Base for China-ASEAN Expo. According to the intentions of the university and GIEAB, GIEAB became the practice base of the university.
In order to strengthen the establishment of the practice base, further explore and enhance the cooperation between the university and the Expo, the university sent a study group to Nanning to discuss related issues with GIEAB on May 5th.
On May 6th, the study group visited the Expo venue, Guangxi International Exhibition Center. The growing scale of the Expo and advanced facilities of the venue left deep impression to the study group. Later, they received warm welcome from Nong Rong, deputy director of GIEAB, and other leaders of relative departments. The two parties held discussion in a pleasant atmosphere.
Nong reviewed the development of the Expo over the years and the important role it plays in the cooperation of politics, economy and culture between China and 10 ASEAN countries. He extended sincere appreciation to GDUFS for providing high-leveled language service to the Expo. And he, on behalf of GIEAB, expressed the desire to further promote the cooperation between GIEAB and GDUFS, and put forward six pieces of specific cooperation advice.
Xu Guobin replied that it was of great significance for GDUFS, a key university of foreign studies, to provide service to the Expo. The function of a university was not only to educate students but also to serve the society. The task of a student was not only to study knowledge but also to participate in the development of social economy and to lead the creation of advanced culture. He said that the university would carry out the advice put forward by the GIEAB and continued to provide high-quality service for the Expo.
Other leaders of the functional departments attending the discussion also reviewed the pleasant experience of the cooperation with GDUFS in the past and provided valuable advice for better cooperation in the future. The atmosphere of the discussion is as warm as the spring sunlight of Nanning, the Green City.
Then, the two parties held the ceremony to inaugurate GIEAB as the practice base of GDUFS. The two parties both expressed that they would continuously enhance the cooperation in language service, personnel training & on-the-job training, and realize win-win benefit with the practice base as a cooperation platform.
